Richard Pirog
Pirog, Richard, IFMCV Board Member is Associate Director and Marketing and Food Systems Program Leader at the Leopold Center for Sustainable Agriculture at Iowa State University. Pirog directs the Value Chain Partnerships for a Sustainable Agriculture (VCPSA) project, which is a multi-organizational effort that provides technical assistance to farmer-led food businesses and networks. In Iowa, Pirog’s facilitates development of multiple Regional Food System Working Groups that in turn assist and facilitate the development of local and regional food businesses and networks. Pirog’s work on local and place-based foods and eco-labels has been published in magazines and media outlets across the globe and used widely in courses on sustainable agriculture. Pirog holds a Master's Degree in Agricultural Meteorology from the University of Missouri and an undergraduate degree in earth science from Kean College in New Jersey. In 2003, Priog received the Iowa Sustainable Agriculture Achievement Award from the Practical Farmers of Iowa. In 2004, Pirog received the Iowa State University College of Agriculture Award for Outstanding Achievement and Service.
